Block Build Be Gatherings

Our past Block Build Be gatherings attracted a diverse array of spiritual-political friends, Buddhist and not. Together we experimented with how our "doing" is supported by our "being." We explored the practices of blocking harm and oppression, building sustainable solutions, and being free inside, all of which contribute vitally to our liberation struggles. 2020 and 2021 were our first virtual gatherings. We are currently on a programmatic pause. You can sign up for our newsletters to stay up-to-date with in-person and virtual program offerings for the future.

Talks & Workshops

We offer occasional talks & workshops, typically for Buddhist groups looking for strong racial, gender, and economic analysis. Events the last couple years have included

  • Harvard's Buddhism and Race conference

  • East Bay Meditation Center's series on Refuge, Resilience, and Revolution

  • After Mindfulness conference's special panel on Buddhism & Social Justice

Action Collaborations

BPF's role in movement ecology is not to initiate or lead organizing campaigns. Instead, we curb activist burnout and help movement leaders breathe again by nourishing BPFers who continually embed ourselves in the vibrant movement groups and issues that call to us personally — whether local, trans-local, or global.

Most of our offerings are general, to serve a wide audience in a range of activities. But in rare, special circumstances, BPF staff also offer direct spiritual activist support to BPFers immersed in concrete movement projects, if those projects meaningfully center racial, gender, ecological and/or economic justice. Currently, we prioritize advising and supporting

  • Creative nonviolent direct action

  • "Interfaith" action willing to take bold, meaningful risks

  • Visionary-pragmatic efforts toward decolonization and decoloniality

  • Ecological, feminist, anti-capitalist projects led by, or accountable to, people of color.
